		<description>Brian,
Congrats on another great Walk. It was an honour to join you and, if you&#039;re back at it next year, we&#039;ll be there too.
This was in today&#039;s Journal Pioneer -
&lt;a HREF=&quot;http://www.journalpioneer.com/index.cfm?sid=132910&amp;sc=123&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;http://www.journalpioneer.com/index.cfm?sid=132910&amp;sc=123&lt;/A&gt;

Organ donation important to all print this article
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Editor,

As I am writing this letter, Summerside resident Brian Ellis is once again walking across P.E.I. to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.

This man is so grateful and so thankful to have been given the gift of life through a kidney transplant, that he has braved ill health and bad weather to spread his message.

Our family knows, only too well, the importance of organ donation. On Sept. 24, 1993, our precious daughter, Wendy, was suddenly taken from us in a tragic car-pedestrian accident. She was only 15 years old.

The summer before her death, Wendy had discussed with us her intention of being an organ donor. And so on that fateful evening, we decided to honour her wish and sign away her organs.

We later found out that two people had received her corneas. We have never regretted our decision.

Now, 15 years later, because of Brian&#039;s walk, we are once again reminded of how important it is to be an organ donor.

My husband, Grant, suffers from a hereditary disease known as polycystic kidneys. He has been on dialysis for more than two years and is on a transplant list.

Although we are very grateful that he is feeling quite well, our greatest wish would be to receive a telephone call saying a kidney was available for him.

It would mean such happiness for us - and such sadness for another family. We know, we&#039;ve been there.

In closing, I would like to wish Brian Ellis and his family all the best in the future and I would like to ask everyone to seriously consider being an organ donor.

It would be the greatest gift you could ever give.

Trudy Betts,

<description>I remember working with Brian just before and up to the time he had to leave work. He would work his guts out lifting 35 lb cases of french fries and palletizing them for 12 hours a day. Near the end he had about 12% of his kidneys left. At break time he would have a few unsalted crackers and go back to work and give his all again. I knew how sick he was and it was hard on me to see that every day. I would take time from my job now and then to visit with him and throw a few boxes for him but I would get tired after a while and would have to stop. Brian was not allowed to eat normal foods and this had to have affected his strength. In all the years I worked with Brian, I can&#039;t remember him ever missing a day. When I looked in his eyes during his walk I saw the same determined look as he had way back then. Brian, you&#039;re the toughest guy I know and I am proud to be your friend! I love you too Buddy!

		<description>Dear Brian,
I have been reading and hearing so much of you lately...I have to commend you courage!! On May 1st I am attempting a &quot;shuffle hop step&quot; across PEI in support of youth involvement in the arts. I would be kidding if I said I wasn&#039;t scared - the weather... the feet... I hope that our paths will cross - you are amazing, and I wish you all the best.
